My wife and I owned two dogs that we had owned before we met and brought into the marriage. Her dog was a pit bull/labrador cross named Zack, and he hated me. When our daughter was born, I said to the wife,”If he so much as nips at the baby, he’s gone.”
We brought our daughter home in a car seat, and both dogs sniffed and licked her, tails wagging. I had to pull Zack away from her because he wouldn’t stop licking her. Zack immediately became my daughter’s protector, and when she was lying on a blanket on the floor, he always had to have one foot on the blanket.
Zack loved my daughter immensely, and when she became a little older always walked her to bed, and then slept on the bed with her. He somehow knew whenever it was time to go upstairs, and he would wait at the foot of the stairs for her, and then follow her up to bed.
Zack was poisoned by some dirtbag neighbor kids, and we had one of the worst days of our lives. Watching my daughter say goodbye to him as he laid still on the kitchen floor, my wife and I were both sobbing.
At 8:00 that night, my daughter walked to the stairs to go to bed. At that moment, all three of us realized what was about to happen. After 5 years, she didn’t have Zack to accompany her upstairs. She looked at her mother and me with a look of horror and panic.
It was at that moment that my dog, who loved my daughter dearly, but was not in Zack’s league, stood up, walked over to her, and nudged her with his head. He put his foot on the stairs, and looked up at her. They walked up to bed, with my daughter holding tightly to his neck.
For the next 6 years, until he died, Sam waited for her by the stairs each night.

Who am I? Unless you visited the “About It.” page on the blog, you probably don’t know what this whole thing is really about. I am passionately driven to inspire masses. From humor to art, philosophy to stories, I intend on creating an atmosphere that consists of the idea that inspiration is all around us and comes from all corners of the Earth. But first thing is first…What exactly is Inspiration?????
2. person, place, experience, etc., that makes someone want to do or create something
3. a good idea
And that is exactly it: “makes someone want to DO something.” We live in one of the most interesting eras of history where ONE person can make a difference, be it minuscule or extraordinary. YOU can make a difference. And that is the mantra for this brand.
The goal is to “Inspire One. Inspire All.,” through a myriad of sources. Yeah it is kind of cliché, or cheesy….but still, it is for a good cause! I want to motivate the athlete to not let his disabilities get in his way. I want to inspire the socially-awkward girl to face her fears and run for class president. I want the 50-year old to start that business he always wanted to. I want to make a difference.
One person at a time…or post, I will make a difference. This is the “Inspire One.” Experience.
This blog was created somewhat 3-weeks ago. The following was exponential. Today there is 80 followers and I appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you. You guys are what will make this brand strong, recognizable, and known to the masses. YOU are the focal point of this brand. You will be the ones who will make Inspire One.’s message and mission loud and clear.
The plan is to reach hundreds of thousands of people and spread the “Inspire One. Inspire All.” message across the nation and the globe. In the near future, “Inspire One.” will release products to do just that. Striving to be a better “Life is Good” brand, the slogan just as well may be: “Life is good…but sometimes we all need a little inspiration ;)”
The plan always consists of selling T-shirts with the “Inspire One.” logo on the front, and a quote of inspiration on the back. There will definitely be updates on this idea in the near future with pictures of the product, but this is the first “reveal.”
The main message of this post though, is to thank all of you for your support. You may not have known the determination of this brand when you first pressed that follow button, but I assure you that you are the building blocks to the success of Inspire One.. This is a brand that is created by you, for you. Keep up the support, tell your friends, spread the message and inspiration!
Thank you all.

Juliane Koepcke grew up in Lima, Peru, before moving, at 14, to the Peruvian rain forest, where her parents, Maria and Hans-Wilhelm Koepcke, established the Panguana Ecological Research Station. After two years of accompanying them on research trips into the jungle, Juliane returned to Lima to complete high school.
On December 24, 1971, Juliane, 17, and her mother boarded a flight in Lima bound for Pucallpa, the city with an airport closest to Panguana, to visit her father for Christmas. In her own words:
My days in Lima are wonderful. Despite my jungle experience, I am a schoolgirl. I spend my vacations in Panguana and my school days with classmates in Lima.
My mother prefers to fly to Pucallpa earlier, but a school dance and my high school graduation ceremony are on December 22 and 23, respectively. I beg my mother to let me attend.
“All right,” she said. “We’ll fly on the 24th.”
The airport is packed when we arrive the morning of Christmas Eve. Several flights had been canceled the day before, and hundreds of people now crowd the ticket counters. About 11 a.m., we gather for boarding. My mother and I sit in the second-to-last row on a three-seat bench. I’m by the window as always; my mother sits beside me; a heavyset man sits in the aisle seat. Mother doesn’t like flying. She’s an ornithologist and says it’s unnatural that a bird made of metal takes off into the air.
Stop reacting and start responding- The most important change that you need to make in yourself is that you should start responding and stop reacting. Well what is the difference between the two?
The difference between responding and reacting is that a bad situation can become worse or a bad situation can become better. The act of responding requires one to look at the circumstance, identify the problem or situation, hear what is happening and reflect and then act.
Reacting on the other hand is instantaneous. It does not involve any thinking and reflection.Reactive people are very easily affected by their social environment. When they are treated well they feel nice and when they are not they become sad ,defensive and lose their cool.
People who respond are also affected by external stimuli, may it be physical, social, or psychological. But their response to the stimuli, conscious or unconscious, is based on wise thinking and analysis.
Stop concerning and start controlling.- Everyone is concerned about various things – our health, wealth, love, career and 101 other things. To improve yourself you need to put your efforts and energy to the problems that are under your control(or influence) and stop worrying about things you are concerned about but cannot be controlled.
Again reactive people try to take control of the things they are concerned about and not the ones that are actually under their influence. They focus on the
weakness of other people, the problems in the environment, and circumstances over which they have no control. As such they waste their time and energy and in the end feel lost.
Whereas people who are not reactive tend to focus on the things that are under their control. They work on those things they can do something about.
Stop criticizing and start understanding- Anyone can criticize, condemn and complain – and most people do.
But there are very few people who can control themselves and understand the other person.People often think that they are correct and the other one is wrong. This causes frustration, anger and you keep thinking about them.
We see things as we are conditioned to see and not as they actually are. There is a very interesting example to understand this.
The above picture is that of a young lady. It would not be difficult for you to find out. But what if someone says that the above picture is that of an old lady.
Would you start fighting with him? Well, i yes, then you are wrong. The above picture can be said to be a picture of an old lady.
Have a look at this
The Young Lady
The Old Lady
Instead of condemning people, try to understand them. Try to figure out why they do what they do and why do they do so. You might not be always correct.
That’s a lot more profitable and intriguing than criticism; and it breeds sympathy, tolerance and kindness.
“To know all is to forgive all.”
Stop procrastinating and start acting- A very important habit that you need to inculcate within yourself is that you need to act to improve your life. Things will not change on their own, You will have to make them change. Many people wait for things to get better, they keep waiting and waiting and finally they get nothing.
Hope is indeed a good thing but it is definitely not a strategy.
Conclusion: In order to improve yourself and develop into your greatest self you will need to develop these habits.
It’s sometimes a painful process. It’s a change that has to be motivated by a higher purpose, by the willingness to subordinate what you think you want now for what you want later.
Happiness can be defined, in part at least,as the fruit of the desire and ability to sacrifice what we want now for what we want eventually.
The truth is that airports saw more sincere kisses than wedding halls, and the walls of hospitals have heard more prayers than the walls of the church.

Ironic…but somewhat true. The life around us has been created by people no smarter than you – Steve Jobs. This life around us can be changed by one individual…and that is a beautiful freakin thing. Whatever your dream, goal, aspiration, or passion is, go for it and don’t look back. I’ll reiterate: one individual can make a significant difference in our world, and that is more prevalent now than ever. Get out there!!!!
Some of the things I have learned during my first 23 years on this planet.
When you are a kid you naturally assume money grows in trees and get
pissed at your parents when they do not buy you your favourite toy. With
time you realize they did their best and you overestimated the financial status of your household and got disappointing in the process. Only after I
joined my job and currently trying to figure out ways to cut cost and save
a little I have understood how hard it is to make money.
And my parents grew up without mobiles. internet and every other thing we
take for granted nowadays.
No matter how much money I make now I can never go back to school and do things I did not care about at that time. I really wanted to stand for School President but never had the guts to take up a public post. I tried to compensate by getting elected to my College’s Student Council as a Representative but it is not the same thing. Nor can I go back and ask out the girls I wanted to. Or have the carefree life again. College is also over and there are many things I wished I had done but never did due to my own procrastinating nature. Live in the moment and seriously do the shit you want to. Once you do not and time passes you wont be able to go back.
I wrote about this earlier too in my answer : Manas J Saloi’s answer to What are some things people lose that they regret the most? Trust me as you go older you will make fewer friends and the innocence of the old friendships will no longer be there. You will talk mature stuff and try to hang out with your colleagues. Both are not mutually exclusive but still not the same.
I had much more hair a few years back and will have fewer as years go by. I
was never satisfied and used a lot of hair gel and other stuff I regret using now. I was never satisfied with myself. Remain fit but do not obsess with losing too much weight or having the perfect hair do. With time you will learn to be comfortable in your skin. I know this is sick but whenever I feel bad about myself I wonder what does my paralyzed cousin feel who has lost the workings of both his legs in a freak accident and has remained bed ridden for the last 10+ years.
You are OK however you are. Do not bitch about your friend with beautiful hair or that guy with the perfect abs. Be happy with your less than perfect curly hair.
Most people wont be in their dream jobs. You will come back pissed at something that happened at work today or how your Boss thinks you are an idiot. Unless you have some activity to relax, calm your mind, make you smile again you will really feel like shit. Start going to the gym, start writing, start learning new languages. Occupy your mind.
There will be problems with your parents, at your job, in your love life. You will be frustrated if you try to make everything right all at the same time. It is only because you think everything should occur as you planned that you become sad. Learn to let go. Accept you will always face problems. You girlfriend is not perfect, nor is your job and the least of all this planet. Everything is not all sunshine and honky dory.
While you are being angry for not getting the attention of that cute girl at
office you forget to notice your room mate going out of the way to do something for you that day. Or that call from your parents. Or that perfect moon lit night where you can take a stroll. Learn to enjoy the little things nearby than the things you have no control over.
People see their friends getting hitched all the time and often wonder how nice it would be to have a girl friend. Most get into a relationship just for the sake of getting one and not because they are ready. Do not make the same mistake. Love will happen. In time. You will make a lot of mistakes in relationships and will end up a better man because of it.
We tend to drift away from our parents as we grown up. Settle in a different place. We never realize how much that one phone call at night means to them. No matter how much busy you are do find some time for them. For most Indian parents we are everything to them. The result of all their sacrifices, blood and tears. See the happiness in their voice when you announce about your new job. Soon they will be gone and you will miss them. And one day you will turn into them too. You will have your own kids. Treat your parents like you want your own kids to treat you one day.
Think about it. We have all seen people doing over time at their office, working on things they do not enjoy to earn money they won’t be able to spend. Even if we earn millions in a financial year but have no time to spend on things that matter to us then there is no point of that millions.
Do not wait until it is too late. I wrote about this in Manas J Saloi’s answer to What makes young men turn into grumpy old men?
Read this line somewhere and it is the most profound thing a guy in his early 20s can learn in this life. For an Indian the race to be ahead of everyone else begins in his childhood- Tuitions, School Classes, Olympiads, IIT Coaching, IIT, Tech Job, fight for promotion, the biggest house. Only when you are old enough you learn to look back in retrospect and wonder if it was all worth it and if a big house with a pool was all you wanted from your life. So stop for once and think. Do not run after things you have no interest in because society thinks it is important. Leave the rat race. NOW.
“You might want to travel around the world. Live an exciting life. But always remember that no matter where you go, as long as you do not have the people who matter around you, you will never be truly happy. You might think that we live a boring life doing the same thing everyday but it is still worth it because it has made your education possible and given you the facilities we never had.”
The above two pieces of advice were given to me by my mom once.
I could not get into IITs even during my second attempt and secured a place in the extended merit list. It was after I had dropped a year ins pite of getting into a few NITs. It became hell for me. People began to poke fun of me saying IIT’s are not for everyone. You have to think outside the box and what not. And most of these people were not Engineers or had a remote idea about IIT preparation or B.Tech degrees. I got a good score in BITSAT and joined BITS Goa CS Dept. It was the best decision I ever made. Not only I managed to live in Goa for 4 years I met there some of the smartest bunch of people I could have hoped to spend my college years with. I have a comfortable job now, good friends, managed to do a lot during my college time and in retrospect could probably achieve a lot more only because I failed at JEE. So never lose hope
There are endless sources of inspiration. You just have to keep your eyes open. But these four might be the most prominent/significant:
1. Nature/The Universe
Its so varied, vast and beautiful. And we are all a part of it. I’m inspired by how interconnected I am to all of IT.
2. My own potential
Like Johnny Bosche mentioned, we are fraught with imperfections, but we have potential to be better. Its improbable that I reach this ideal version of myself, but knowing (or thinking?) that I can be great, however illusory that may be, inspires me to try. And by doing so we can come close.
3. Human potential
Although sometimes it feels like the world is going to shits
..I know it could be better, actually, I’m SURE it could be MUCH better. We are not like the rest of the matter in the Universe. We are thinking, feeling, conscious matter. We may seem very dumb at times, but we have survived despite many odds and roadblocks along our history. We can be very very clever and sometimes even good. I have hope in humanity and I am inspired by what humanity could achieve.
We could explore the stars, far away galaxies, the universe and maybe even time. I’m flabbergasted by our potential, but more importantly, inspired to be part of a push(however minuscule) in the right direction.
4. The Unknown
Already mentioned by Bernardt Vogel, but still one of the most, if not the most, powerful sources of inspiration: That which I have yet to even imagine. The idea in and of itself is just…thrilling.
